beehiiv
Newsletter platform with a built-in website, referral program, paid subscriptions and an ad network.
Overview
beehiiv is a newsletter platform founded by former Morning Brew staff for writers and media operators who want to grow, and eventually monetize, an email audience. Beyond a modern editor and sending infrastructure it includes a newsletter website and archive, subscribe forms, a referral program, a recommendation network, polls and surveys, audience segmentation, automations and detailed analytics. Monetization is built in: paid subscriptions run through Stripe with no platform commission, an ad network connects publishers with sponsors, and Boosts pay publishers for recommending other newsletters.
The Launch plan is free for up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends. Scale starts at approximately $39 per month for 1,000 subscribers and adds the referral program, paid subscriptions, automations, A/B testing and custom domains; Max starts at approximately $99 per month and removes beehiiv branding while adding more publications and team seats. Prices step up with subscriber count, and Enterprise is custom. A 30-day trial is offered on paid tiers.
beehiiv competes most directly with Substack, which charges 10% of paid revenue, and with Kit. It is a weaker fit for businesses that mainly send promotional email to customers or need ecommerce integrations, and it has fewer third-party integrations than older platforms.
