ClickUp alternatives
8 tools in Project Management comparable to ClickUp, ranked by VERILO editor rating and editorial score. Rankings are independent of affiliate relationships.
People leave ClickUp for one of two reasons, and they point in opposite directions. Either the configurability became a burden — the hierarchy takes work to maintain and the interface is dense — or the workspace grew and performance did not keep up.
If the complaint is complexity, Trello is the honest step down: a board, cheap, adopted in an afternoon, and deliberately much less capable. Asana is the middle ground, keeping structured project management while being markedly easier to live in. If the complaint is polish rather than power, monday.com covers similar ground with a more approachable visual model, though its free plan stops at two seats where ClickUp's does not cap members at all.
If you are leaving because you want documents and databases more than project delivery, you are not really looking for a project manager — compare Notion instead. And for engineering teams specifically, Linear is opinionated issue tracking rather than a configurable system, which is the point.
