ChatGPT is OpenAI's general-purpose AI assistant, used for drafting and editing text, answering questions with web search, analyzing uploaded files and spreadsheets, writing and running code, generating images and holding voice conversations. It is one of the most widely used consumer AI products, with an audience that spans students, knowledge workers, developers and small businesses. Custom GPTs, Projects, memory and connectors to Google Drive, Gmail, SharePoint, GitHub, Slack, Dropbox and Notion extend it into a work tool, and the Business tier adds admin controls and keeps company data out of training.

Pricing has stratified. The Free tier is usable but rate-limited, and OpenAI has begun showing ads to Free and Go users. Go, available worldwide at $8 per month, raises message, upload and image limits roughly tenfold. Plus at $20 per month removes ads and adds higher limits on deep research and agent mode; Pro at $200 per month targets heavy users with the highest quotas and the highest-compute reasoning models. Business costs $25 per user per month ($20 billed annually) with a two-seat minimum, and Enterprise is quoted.

What to know: usage caps on every plan are rolling windows that change with demand, model lineups change several times a year, and the OpenAI API is a separate usage-billed product rather than part of a ChatGPT subscription.
