Wix
Drag-and-drop website builder with a free plan, an AI site generator and online store features on paid tiers.
Overview
Wix is a hosted website builder used by small businesses, freelancers and creators, with an online store (Wix Stores), bookings, restaurant ordering and event ticketing available as built-in apps. Sites are built in a freeform drag-and-drop editor or generated from a short conversation with the AI site builder; agencies and developers can use Wix Studio for client work and Velo for custom code and APIs.
A permanently free plan lets you publish on a Wix subdomain with Wix branding. Paid plans are priced per site and quoted per month billed annually: Light ($17), Core ($29), Business ($39) and Business Elite ($159). Selling online requires Core or above; Business adds features such as abandoned cart recovery, and Business Elite unlocks multi-currency and advanced reporting. Wix does not add its own transaction fees on top of processor fees. Month-to-month billing is available at higher rates, so treat the prices above as annual equivalents.
Trade-offs: you cannot switch templates without rebuilding, sites cannot be exported to another host, and Wix Payments and POS hardware are limited to certain countries. The App Market is broad, but commerce depth is below Shopify and BigCommerce for large catalogs or multi-channel operations.
