Hotjar
Behavior analytics with heatmaps, session recordings, surveys and feedback widgets for websites.
Overview
Hotjar is a behavior analytics and user feedback tool that shows what visitors do on a website rather than how many arrive. Its Observe product produces click, move and scroll heatmaps and session recordings; Ask adds on-site surveys and a feedback widget; Engage recruits and hosts user interviews. Marketers, UX designers and product teams use it alongside a traffic tool such as Google Analytics to explain why a page underperforms. Hotjar has been owned by Contentsquare since 2021, which has been progressively folding it into its own product line.
Setup is a single script or a Shopify or WordPress plugin, and the interface needs little training. Recordings can be filtered by events, frustration signals such as rage clicks, and saved segments, and paid tiers add funnels, dashboards and integrations with Google Analytics, HubSpot, Slack and Jira. An AI feature drafts survey questions and summarizes responses.
Each product is priced separately, each with a free Basic tier. Observe Basic captures up to 35 daily sessions; Plus is approximately $39 per month ($32 billed annually) for 100 daily sessions, Business starts around $99 per month ($80 annually) for 500, and Scale starts around $213 per month ($171 annually). Data retention is 365 days, capture stops once the daily session cap is hit, and combining Observe with Ask roughly doubles the bill.
