Grammarly

Writing assistant that checks grammar, clarity and tone across browsers, desktop apps and mobile keyboards.

4.3Editor ratingWritingFree plan available

Overview

Grammarly is a writing assistant that checks spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity and tone wherever you type, through a browser extension, Windows and Mac desktop apps, a Microsoft Word add-in and a mobile keyboard. It is used by students, professionals and customer-facing teams, and the extension works inside Gmail, Google Docs, LinkedIn and most web apps, which is its main advantage over an editor's built-in checker.

The Free plan covers core spelling and grammar with a small monthly allowance of generative AI prompts. Pro adds full-sentence rewrites, tone adjustment, vocabulary suggestions, a plagiarism checker and a much larger AI prompt allowance. Enterprise adds style guides, brand tones, SSO and admin analytics. Grammarly acquired the Coda document platform in late 2024 and the Superhuman email app in 2025 as it repositions toward a broader AI productivity suite.

Pro costs $30 per month billed monthly or $12 per month billed annually, a gap that makes annual billing the sensible choice for regular users. Team pricing is per member. Grammarly is English-centric and cloud-based, so text is sent to its servers, which some organizations restrict, and its suggestions can be overzealous on deliberately informal or technical writing.
