Overview
Evernote is one of the oldest note-taking services, used to capture typed notes, web clippings, scanned documents, images and audio, then find them again with search that, on paid plans, also reads text inside images and PDFs. Notes live in notebooks and can be tagged, and the app includes tasks and a calendar connection so reminders and meetings sit alongside notes. It runs on web, desktop and mobile with a widely used Web Clipper extension.
Since Bending Spoons acquired it in 2023 the app has been rebuilt for speed and has gained real-time collaborative editing and AI features such as AI-assisted editing and search, but pricing has also risen sharply and the Free plan was cut to 50 notes and one notebook, which makes it little more than an extended trial.
Personal costs $14.99 per month ($129.99 per year) and Professional $17.99 per month ($169.99 per year); Teams is $24.99 per user per month. That places Evernote well above most competitors for individuals. It remains a strong choice for people with large archives of clipped and scanned material, and less compelling for anyone starting fresh who mainly needs text notes.
