Overview
Cursor is an AI-first code editor built as a fork of Visual Studio Code, so existing extensions, keybindings and themes carry over. Its core features are Tab, a multi-line autocomplete that predicts the next edit; a chat sidebar that indexes the whole codebase; and Agent mode, which plans changes across files, runs terminal commands and iterates on errors. Background agents run tasks remotely and open pull requests, and the Bugbot add-on reviews pull requests on GitHub. Users can pick among models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and xAI, or an Auto mode that selects for them.
It is widely adopted by individual developers and startups, with Teams and Enterprise plans adding SSO, admin controls and an enforced privacy mode that prevents code from being retained.
The Hobby plan is free with a limited number of completions and agent requests, plus a two-week Pro trial. Pro is $20 per month and includes a monthly allowance of model usage billed at API rates, with higher-allowance Pro+ and Ultra tiers at approximately $60 and $200 per month; Teams is $40 per user per month. Heavy agent use can exhaust the included allowance quickly, so watch the usage settings.
