Zapier
Editor’s pickNo-code automation platform connecting more than 8,000 apps with trigger-and-action workflows.
Overview
Zapier is the most widely used no-code automation platform, connecting more than 8,000 web apps through trigger-and-action workflows called Zaps. Beyond Zaps, the product now includes Tables (a simple database), Interfaces (forms and pages), Chatbots, Canvas for mapping processes, and Zapier Agents, which use AI to carry out multi-step tasks across connected apps. A Copilot inside the editor drafts Zaps from plain-English descriptions.
Marketing, sales, operations and support teams at small and mid-sized companies are its core users, as are solo operators. Pricing is based on monthly task volume: the free plan allows 100 tasks and two-step Zaps with 15-minute polling; Professional starts at $29.99 per month billed monthly (about $19.99 annually) for 750 tasks, multi-step Zaps, webhooks and premium apps; Team starts at $103.50 per month (about $69 annually) with 2,000 tasks and unlimited users. Task costs escalate quickly at high volumes, which is the main reason technical teams look at Make or n8n instead. Enterprise adds SSO, audit logs and advanced admin controls at custom pricing.

Verdict
Zapier is still the right first automation tool for a non-technical team. It has the largest app library in the category and the simplest editor, and for most small businesses the question is only whether an integration exists — which is the question Zapier answers best.
It becomes the wrong tool at volume. Pricing is per task, so cost climbs with the work rather than the team, complex branching and data transformation are clumsier here than in the alternatives, and there is no self-hosting: everything passes through Zapier's cloud. If either the volume or the data residency matters, move before the bill teaches you to.
Before you commit
Questions worth answering for your own situation. Nothing here is a fault of the product.
- Estimate your monthly task volume before choosing a tier; billing follows tasks, not seats
- The free plan is limited to two-step Zaps and 15-minute polling, which is a trial rather than a working tier
- If a workflow needs heavy branching or data transformation, prototype it before committing
- There is no self-hosting — confirm that all your data may pass through a third-party cloud
- Check that the specific integrations you need exist, since that is the main reason to choose Zapier over cheaper rivals
