Replit
Browser-based development environment with hosting, databases and an AI agent that builds apps from prompts.
Overview
Replit is a browser-based development environment that combines a cloud IDE, hosting, databases and an AI agent in one workspace. Its main draw since 2024 has been Replit Agent, which builds and modifies full applications from natural-language prompts, provisions a PostgreSQL database, and deploys the result with a custom domain. The workspace also supports real-time multiplayer editing, GitHub import and export, and companion apps for iOS and Android.
It is popular with beginners, educators, indie makers and founders prototyping products without a full engineering setup, and some professional teams use it for internal tools. Pricing has shifted toward usage: Core costs $25 per month billed monthly (about $20 per month billed annually) and includes a monthly credit allowance, while Agent work is metered on an effort basis that can vary considerably from task to task. The free Starter plan allows only a small number of apps and limited Agent use. Deployment and compute charges are billed on top of the subscription, so budgets should be watched on active projects.
