Xero
Cloud accounting with bank reconciliation, invoicing and reporting; every plan includes unlimited users.
Overview
Xero is a cloud accounting platform founded in New Zealand and widely used in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and, increasingly, the US. It handles invoicing, quotes, bills, bank reconciliation, fixed assets, basic inventory and financial reporting, with a clean interface built around the bank reconciliation screen. Every plan includes unlimited users, which is unusual in this category and suits businesses that want owners, staff and an external accountant all working in the same file.
US plans are Early, Growing and Established. Early is inexpensive but limited to roughly 20 invoices and quotes and 5 bills per month, so most growing businesses land on Growing. Multi-currency, expense claims and project tracking are reserved for Established. Payroll is native in the UK, Australia and New Zealand but handled through Gusto in the US. Prices vary by country and have increased regularly; a free trial is available.
Xero's app marketplace is large and its API is well documented, so most ecommerce, payment and CRM tools connect natively. Expect a moderate learning curve if you are new to double-entry concepts, and check regional feature availability before committing.
