Loom
Async screen and camera recorder that shares videos as links with transcripts and AI summaries.
Overview
Loom is an asynchronous video messaging tool for recording your screen, camera, or both and sharing the result as a link within seconds. Recordings upload while you talk, so a walkthrough or bug report is ready to share the moment you stop. Since its 2023 acquisition by Atlassian it has been woven into Jira and Confluence, alongside existing hooks into Slack, Gmail, Notion and GitHub.
It is used mostly by product, engineering, sales and support teams that want to replace meetings with short explainer videos. Standout features include transcript-based trimming, automatic captions, Loom AI (titles, summaries, chapters and a generated task list) and per-video engagement insights so you can see who watched and where they dropped off. Editing beyond trims, filler-word removal and basic overlays is limited; it is a communication tool rather than a video editor.
The free Starter plan allows 25 videos per person at up to five minutes each, which is enough to test but restrictive for regular use. Business is priced per creator (viewers are free), around $15 per creator monthly or $12.50 billed annually, and AI features sit in a higher Business + AI tier, so budget for that if summaries matter. SSO and SCIM require Enterprise.
